Is it worth opening CS2 cases?

Around 19% of single openings pay for themselves in the best case for that, and most of the value sits in the rare Covert and knife drops that come up once every few hundred cases.

How the ranking works

The odds are identical in every case (79.92% Mil-Spec, 15.98% Restricted, 3.2% Classified, 0.64% Covert, 0.26% knife or gloves), so the difference between cases comes from prices. For each case we value every possible drop across all five wears and the 10% StatTrak chance using live market prices, average it by drop chance, and divide by the case price plus the key. Old cases like the CS:GO Weapon Case contain valuable skins but the case itself costs so much that they rank near the bottom.

The result is the average value of one opening, which we compare with the case price plus the key.
