Knife & glove trade up: key facts
- Recipe: 5 Covert skins → 1 knife or gloves (CS2 update, October 23, 2025).
- Pool: the knives and gloves of the case each input comes from; every input adds a 20% share for its case.
- Odds: (inputs from a case ÷ 5) ÷ items in that case’s pool.
- StatTrak™: 5 StatTrak™ Covert → StatTrak™ knife; gloves are not possible.
- Float: min + average normalised input float × (max − min) of the knife.
- Only case collections have a knife pool – Covert skins from map or operation collections cannot be used for this recipe.

Knife trade up FAQ
How does the CS2 knife trade up work?
Since the CS2 update of October 23, 2025 you can put 5 Covert skins into a trade up contract and receive 1 knife or 1 pair of gloves. The result comes from the case of one of the skins you used – each input gives its case a 1-in-5 share of the roll – and its float is calculated from your input floats.
How many reds (Covert skins) do you need for a knife trade up?
Exactly 5 Covert skins – players call them “reds” – of the same type: all normal or all StatTrak™. Ten skins are only used for the standard trade ups below Covert.
What is the cheapest knife trade up?
Five of the cheapest Covert skin of a weapon case collection, usually in Battle-Scarred or Well-Worn wear. Our cheapest knife trade up page ranks every 5-red contract by cost with live prices, and each case page shows the knife pool you would roll from.
Which knife or gloves can I get?
Only the knives and gloves that drop from the case of each input skin. Our calculator loads the full pool for every case – 43 case collections are supported – and shows each possible item with its chance and live price.
What are the odds for a specific knife?
Chance = (inputs from that case ÷ 5) ÷ number of knives and gloves in that case’s pool. With 5 inputs from a case that has 50 possible items, each one has a 2% chance. Knife type, finish and price do not change the odds.
Can StatTrak Covert skins give gloves?
No. 5 StatTrak™ Covert skins return a StatTrak™ knife. Gloves have no StatTrak™ version, so they are removed from the pool of a StatTrak™ contract – the calculator does this automatically.
How is the float of the knife calculated?
The same way as a normal trade up: each input float is normalised to its own range, the 5 values are averaged, and the result is mapped onto the knife’s float range: min + average × (max − min). Low-float Covert inputs give a low-float knife.
Is a knife trade up profitable?
Usually the expected value is below the cost of 5 Covert skins plus fees, because most knives in a big pool are cheap finishes. Check the expected value, the chance of profit and the fee setting before you craft.
