How Case Hardened patterns work
Case Hardened is one texture of blue, purple and gold stains; the paint seed picks which part of it is wrapped onto the blade. Most seeds land a mix with gold and purple. The few that put almost only blue on the play side are the blue gems – the same skin, same float, same wear, but a price set by collectors rather than the market. Seed 0–1000 exists for every item, and the seed never changes, so a blue gem stays a blue gem through any wear.
A trade up contract that produces a M9 Bayonet | Case Hardened rolls the seed at random, so a contract has roughly a 1-in-1000 chance of any particular seed. Nobody crafts for a specific blue gem; they are found and then held.
